绿珠坠楼 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to sacrifice oneself to uphold one's honor or chastity”. Often in defiance of oppression or coercion. Literally, “Lüzhu falls from a building”.
During the Western Jin Dynasty, Shi Chong, a wealthy magnate from Bohai, was exceedingly rich. He built a villa called Jinguyuan (Golden Valley Garden) specifically for his favorite singing girl, Lüzhu. After being dismissed from his official post, he stayed home, spending his days with Lüzhu.
Sun Xiu, the Central Secretariat, happened to see the famous Lüzhu and was captivated by her. He tried to demand her from Shi Chong, but failed.
So, he dispatched soldiers to seize her by force. Lüzhu adamantly refused to comply and leaped from a building to her death.
