黄龙痛饮 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to celebrate a decisive and complete victory”. Often after overcoming a major challenge or adversary. Literally, “Drink heartily at Huanglong (a historical place)”.
During the late Northern Song Dynasty, the Jurchen people established the Jin Dynasty in the north and launched a massive invasion, leading to the collapse of the Northern Song. Emperor Gaozong, a brother of Emperor Qinzong, then established the Southern Song Dynasty.
However, the Southern Song court was known for its weakness and constant concessions. General Yue Fei, leading the valiant Yue Family Army, bravely resisted the Jin invaders. The Jin soldiers were terrified by his reputation.
As Yue Fei pursued the retreating enemy, he declared to his officers and men, 'I vow to press on directly to Huanglongfu and celebrate our ultimate victory by drinking heartily with you all there!'
