不以一眚掩大德 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “Do not let a minor flaw or mistake overshadow or negate a person's significant achievements or virtues”. Literally, “Not by one fault to obscure great virtue”.
During the Spring and Autumn Period, Duke Mu of Qin disregarded Jian Shu's advice and sent three high officials, Meng Mingshi, among others, to lead troops to attack the State of Zheng. However, their plan was exposed, so they had to change their target to the State of Hua.
On their way, they were ambushed by the Jin army, and their entire army was annihilated.
Duke Xiang of Jin, acceding to his mother's request, released the three officials to return home.
Duke Mu of Qin, dressed in mourning attire, did not let one minor mistake obscure their great virtues; he personally went to the border to welcome them back.
