青鸟使者 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “a messenger who delivers letters or important communications, often with a poetic or mythical connotation; a go-between”. Literally, “Blue bird messenger”.
During the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu, in his later years, became extremely superstitious. He constantly hoped to achieve immortality and held great reverence for deities. He often fasted and meditated quietly in Chenghua Palace.
One day, he saw two blue birds flying in the sky, circling the grand hall. He asked Dongfang Shuo about them, and Dongfang Shuo informed him that these were the blue bird messengers of the Queen Mother of the West. Upon hearing this, Emperor Wu became even more devout in his worship of the gods.
