锦囊佳句 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “Beautiful and exquisite lines of poetry or prose”. A literary gem or masterpiece. Literally, “Beautiful lines in a brocade pouch”.
During the Tang Dynasty, the poet Li He was slender and frail. He often rode a weak horse, accompanied by a young servant. While strolling in the countryside, whenever he encountered beautiful scenery that inspired him, he would immediately compose a few lines of poetry.
He would then put these newly composed verses into a brocade pouch carried by his servant. In the evening, upon returning home, he would take out these 'brocade pouch beautiful lines' and meticulously organize them into complete poems.
Thanks to this diligent practice, new literary works were produced by him every day.
