绝世独立 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “Unique in the world, standing out with unmatched grace”. Often used to describe a woman of unparalleled beauty and elegance. Literally, “Peerless and independent; unrivaled, standing alone”.
During the Han Dynasty, three siblings from the Li family in Zhongshan came to the capital city of Chang'an to develop their careers.
Li Yannian joined the Imperial Music Bureau. He highly recommended his younger sister to Emperor Wu, describing her as a peerless beauty whose charm could captivate a city at first glance and an entire kingdom upon a second look.
Emperor Wu was greatly pleased and summoned Li Yannian's sister, whom he then elevated to the rank of a lady ("夫人"). She later gave birth to Liu He, the King of Changyi. Emperor Wu cherished this exquisitely beautiful lady immensely.
