雷霆之怒 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “a violent, thunderous rage”. Extreme anger. Literally, “Rage of thunder and lightning”.
In 229 AD, Sun Quan declared himself emperor, establishing the state of Wu with its capital in Jianye.
Gongsun Yuan, the Administrator of Liaodong in the state of Wei, sought to form an alliance with Eastern Wu. Sun Quan enfeoffed him as King of Yan.
Unexpectedly, Gongsun Yuan went back on his word and killed the envoys sent by Wu.
Upon hearing this, Sun Quan flew into a thunderous rage and prepared to send troops across the sea to attack Gongsun Yuan, but he was dissuaded by generals like Lu Xun.
