不相为谋 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “People with different principles, objectives, or views cannot plan or work together; do not seek counsel or make plans with those whose principles or objectives differ from your own”.
During the Spring and Autumn period, after Confucius and his disciples encountered difficulties traveling through various states, they eventually returned to his home state of Lu with the help of Ran Qiu.
However, the powerful minister Ji Kangzi considered Confucius too old and did not give him an important position.
Confucius believed that 'those with different principles cannot plan together' (道不同,不相为谋).
Consequently, he chose to live in seclusion, dedicating himself to writing and compiling classics such as 'The Book of Odes,' 'The Book of Documents,' 'The Book of Rites,' 'The Book of Music,' and 'The Spring and Autumn Annals'.
