视同儿戏 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to treat something as child's play”. To regard a serious matter as utterly trivial or insignificant, thereby not taking it seriously. Literally, “regard as child's play”.
During the reign of Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty, relations between the Xiongnu and the Han were tense. Emperor Wen arranged for Liu Li, the Minister of the Imperial Clan, to be stationed at Bashang; Marquis Zhuzi Xu Li at Jimen; and Zhou Yafu, the Administrator of Henei Commandery, at Xiliu, to defend against the Xiongnu.
Emperor Wen personally inspected Bashang and Jimen. He was very angry when he saw that Liu Li and Xu Li treated their defense as child's play. He only felt relieved after seeing Zhou Yafu's strict and meticulous defense.
