How to Make a Chinese Character Morph Animation
Turn one Chinese character, word or short phrase into another. Plan the steps, preview the morph and download animated SVG, MP4 or transparent WebM.

Want 木 to change into 本 and then 末 on a title card? Put each result in its own step, generate the transition and download the animation. You can also morph words or short phrases, with the characters in each step paired by position.
Start with a small sequence that tells one visual story. The steps below show how to arrange it and which file to choose for a browser, a video or a transparent overlay.
Plan two to nine steps around one visible change
A two-step sequence is enough for one before-and-after transition, such as 日 → 目. Add a third step when each change should build on the previous one, as in 木 → 本 → 末. Enter one character, word or short phrase per step; each step can contain up to 24 characters.
For longer text, the tool pairs characters by their position in each step. Put the parts you want to transform in the same positions. If the phrases have different lengths, extra characters appear or disappear as the transition runs. Spaces and punctuation remain visible in the layout.
| Visual idea | Step sequence | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| One shape change | 日 → 目 | The change is legible at the final display size |
| A short progression | 木 → 本 → 末 | Each step follows the intended order |
| A phrase change | 我喜欢中文 → 我爱汉字 | Position-by-position pairing reads clearly |
Enter each step, set the transition time and generate
Type the starting text in Step 1 and the next result in Step 2. Use Add a step after any step to extend the sequence; Reverse order flips the current steps when you want the animation to run the other way. Choose the ink color and a White or Transparent background, then select Generate morph.
Duration per transition applies to every change between adjacent steps. With three steps there are two transitions: a two-second setting gives four seconds of morphing. The control runs from 0.5 to 8 seconds per transition. Use Replay to watch the complete result again before exporting.
When stroke outlines are available, matched strokes change shape and newly added strokes follow their writing paths. If a character has no stroke outlines, the preview uses a text fade for it and shows a notice. Check that notice and the result before deciding how to use the animation.
Download SVG for browser playback or video for your edit
The animated SVG preserves the transition for browser playback. Open the downloaded file in a browser to play it once; reload the file to watch again. The preview on the tool page has its own Replay button.
Choose White when you need an MP4 video with a white background. Choose Transparent for a WebM video with transparency, then test a short export in the editor where you will place it. Video download depends on browser encoding support; the button is disabled when the needed support is unavailable.
| Destination | Background | File |
|---|---|---|
| Browser-based visual | White or Transparent | Animated SVG |
| A slide or conventional video edit | White | MP4 |
| A video layer over your own design | Transparent | WebM |
Use the morph for visual comparison, then choose the next teaching asset
A morph shows a visual transition between the forms you enter. It is useful for an opening graphic or for drawing attention to related-looking characters. It does not explain the historical origin of a character or demonstrate its standard writing sequence.
If the lesson is about how to write each character, make a stroke-order animation for the finished character and let the learner follow the strokes. If the goal is a still card with labeled pronunciation or highlighted parts, make a Chinese text image instead.
Key takeaways
- Put each desired result in its own step; the tool supports two to nine steps.
- For words and phrases, characters are paired by position, so inspect the complete preview.
- Duration is per transition: three steps create two timed transitions.
- Download an animated SVG, white-background MP4 or transparent WebM to match where it will be used.
Put it into practice
Create a Chinese text morph animation

Can I morph Chinese words instead of single characters?
Yes. Each step may contain up to 24 characters. Characters are paired by position, and extra characters appear or disappear when the lengths differ.
Does a three-step morph use the duration three times?
No. Three steps create two transitions. At two seconds per transition, the animation has four seconds of morphing.
Can I make a transparent Chinese character morph video?
Yes. Choose Transparent and download the WebM video in a browser with the required encoder. Test the file in your editor to confirm that it imports the transparent layer.
