Story:

During the Spring and Autumn period, Confucius traveled with his disciples across various states.

While staying in Ye, a sheep from Duke Ye's residence wandered into Confucius's lodging. His disciple Zeng Dian cooked and ate it.

Zeng Dian's son, Zeng Shen, reported this incident to Confucius.

Confucius, understanding Zeng Shen's dilemma between filial piety and honesty, agreed to mediate with Duke Ye. Confucius then remarked, 'A father hides for his son, and a son hides for his father; uprightness is found in this.'
