束缊请火 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to ask for help from others, especially when in difficulty”. Or to help others resolve disputes and overcome difficulties. Literally, “bundle hemp to ask for fire”.
Once upon a time, an old woman falsely accused her daughter-in-law of stealing meat from their home. The daughter-in-law, unable to defend herself, was driven out of the house.
She had no choice but to seek help from an elderly neighbor to clear her name.
The neighbor, knowing the daughter-in-law's character well, came up with a plan. She took a bundle of tangled hemp to the old woman's house to borrow some fire, fabricating a story that her own dog had been killed while fighting over someone else's meat.
Realizing her mistake, the old woman went to bring her daughter-in-law back home.
