During Emperor Shun's reign, the land of China was frequently plagued by severe floods.
Yu petitioned Emperor Shun, requesting to manage the floods, stating, 'My late father's method of damming and blocking the water was ineffective. I propose to use a dredging method to guide the water into the sea.'
Emperor Shun agreed and entrusted Yu with the responsibility of flood control.
Yu led skilled artisans to dig rivers and channels, diverting the water flow. For thirteen years, while engaged in flood control, he passed by his own home multiple times but never entered.
Finally, he successfully eliminated the flood disaster.
