Jia Baoyu's father arranged his marriage to Xue Baochai. Lin Daiyu, heartbroken, died young as a result.
Upon learning this, Jia Baoyu fell seriously ill himself. He insisted on going to mourn at Daiyu's coffin, but his family disagreed.
