During the Song Dynasty, the great literary figure Su Dongpo was exiled to Changhua, Hainan. He walked through the fields, carrying a large gourd on his back and humming tunes.
One day, he met an old woman, aged over seventy. Knowing his difficult experiences and witnessing his current situation, she remarked with great emotion, "Your former glory and wealth, esteemed scholar, were nothing but a spring dream."
Su Dongpo acknowledged her words. From then on, the villagers referred to this old woman as "Spring Dream Granny."
