Story:
During the Han Dynasty, Shi Dan, the esteemed teacher of Emperor Ai, was known for his integrity and was deeply trusted by the emperor. When the issue of currency reform arose, Shi Dan argued that the time was not yet ripe, fearing that with a weak nation and impoverished citizens, such a reform would only lead to a vicious cycle. However, because he had previously offended Empress Dowager Ding and Empress Dowager Fu, his stance was interpreted as a lack of support for the reform itself.
When Shi Dan faced repercussions, an official named Shen Xian pleaded on his behalf. Shen Xian argued that while Shi Dan might have lacked 'deep thought and far-sighted consideration' (深思远虑) in navigating the political landscape of this issue, he should not be subjected to severe punishment.
