Story:

During the Warring States period, the state of Yan was plagued by the tyrannical rule of its minister, Zizhi. This led to a rebellion by General Zibei and Prince Ping, causing widespread chaos.

Seizing this opportunity, King Xuan of Qi launched an attack on Yan, quickly occupying a large portion of its territory. The people of Yan, having suffered under Zizhi's oppression, enthusiastically welcomed the Qi army, bringing them food in baskets and drink in pots.

King Xuan, impressed by the popular support, considered annexing Yan. He sought advice from the philosopher Mencius, who warned him, "If you annex Yan, you will only plunge its people into deeper misery and hardship."
