Story:
During the Spring and Autumn period, the state of Lu faced political instability. Power was alternately held by the three prominent families Ji, Meng, and Shusun with the Duke of Lu being largely a puppet ruler.
As time passed, the influence of Ji Pingzi grew significantly, and he became bold enough to openly defy Duke Zhao of Lu.
On one occasion, during a cockfighting event, Ji Pingzi allowed his dog to bite Duke Zhao's prized chicken.
Duke Zhao, having endured numerous provocations, could no longer tolerate such disrespectful and chaotic behavior (referring to the 'chickens flying and dogs leaping' incident caused by the dog attack). He mobilized his troops to attack Ji Pingzi, but unfortunately, Duke Zhao suffered a great defeat and was forced to flee into exile in the state of Qi.
