During the Warring States period, a farmer in the State of Wei discovered a piece of jade while weeding. He took it home and asked his neighbor to appraise it.
The neighbor, knowing it was a precious gem, lied to him, saying it wasn't a good omen and told him to put it back. The neighbor then secretly took it home.
Fearing misfortune or punishment, he presented it to the King of Wei. After appraisal, it was confirmed to be a priceless treasure. Delighted, the King of Wei rewarded him with a great deal of gold, silver, and jewels.
