不时之须 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “for a rainy day”. For unexpected needs; emergency provisions. Literally, “unscheduled needs”.
During the Song Dynasty, Su Shi, the prefect of Mizhou, was imprisoned after being falsely accused for his poetry. He was later demoted to a deputy commissioner in Huangzhou.
While in Huangzhou, he met two good friends.
One day, his friends obtained a fresh perch. Su Shi asked his wife for wine, and his wife, Wang Runzhi, had already prepared it, saving it for his unexpected needs.
They then took a boat trip to visit the Red Cliff and enjoyed themselves until they were fully content before returning home.
