高枕而卧 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to sleep soundly and peacefully, free from worries or anxieties”. To feel secure and at ease. Literally, “lie on a high pillow and sleep”.
During the Warring States period, Lord Mengchang, the Prime Minister of the State of Qi, sent his retainer Feng Xuan to Xue to collect debts and purchase necessary household items.
Feng Xuan, however, falsely claimed to be acting on Lord Mengchang's orders and burned all the debt contracts. The people who owed money were deeply grateful to Lord Mengchang.
Upon his return, Feng Xuan said, "A cunning rabbit has three burrows, and only then can it barely escape death. Now, my lord, you have only one burrow, and you cannot yet sleep soundly and without worries."
