During the late Eastern Han Dynasty, Sun Jian was renowned throughout the land. Yuan Shu appointed him as General Who Breaks the Enemy and Governor of Yuzhou.
Yuan Shu then ordered Sun Jian to launch a campaign against Liu Biao in Jingzhou. Sun Jian heavily defeated Huang Zu, but was tragically killed by archers led by Lu Gong, a subordinate of Huang Zu.
Sun Jian's son, Sun Ce, was determined to avenge his father's death and wipe out the family's disgrace. With the strategic advice of Zhang Hong, Sun Ce established his base in Jiangnan and eventually gained control over the six commanderies of Jiangdong.
