During the Han Dynasty, Zhang Shuo, the brother of the powerful official Zhang Rang, served as the magistrate of Yewang County. He was tyrannical and ruthless, even committing the heinous act of murdering a pregnant woman.

Upon hearing of Li Ying's strict and upright enforcement of the law, Zhang Shuo fled back to the capital and sought refuge by hiding inside a hollow pillar within Zhang Rang's residence.

When Li Ying learned of Zhang Shuo's whereabouts, he immediately led his officials and soldiers to Zhang Rang's house. Without hesitation, Li Ying ordered the pillar to be broken open, apprehended Zhang Shuo, and promptly incarcerated him in Luoyang prison.

After reporting the matter to the emperor, Zhang Shuo was swiftly brought to justice and executed.
