Qingwen was ill with a fever and headache. Baoyu instructed her to rest in her room quietly and then secretly arranged for a doctor to examine her.
An old maid prepared the herbal medicine for Qingwen. After Qingwen took the medicine, Baoyu went to pay his respects to Granny Jia and Lady Wang.
On his way, he noticed two young maids acting furtively and whispering about something. Baoyu, however, paid no attention to their secretive behavior.
