During the reign of Emperor Xizong of Tang, Zong Sheng, a man from Chang'an, had a close relationship with Chen Jingxuan, the military governor of Sichuan. Later, their friendship deteriorated due to a woman.
When war broke out, Emperor Xizong fled to Sichuan. Zong Sheng also escaped to Jinjiang. Fearing that Chen Jingxuan would learn of his presence, he traveled to Zizhong County, keeping a low profile and completely disappearing from public view, taking great care that no news of his whereabouts would leak out.
