During the Tang Dynasty, Zong, who refined gold and silver in Chang'an, was very good friends with Chen Jingxuan, a pancake seller.
They became sworn enemies over a beautiful woman.
After their friendship ended, Chen Jingxuan was appointed as the military governor (Jiedushi) of Sichuan. When a rebellion broke out in Chang'an, Zong fled with the refugees to Jinjiang in Shu (Sichuan).
He wandered around, changed his name, and intended to disappear without a trace. However, he was eventually found and killed by Chen Jingxuan in Neijiang.
