During the Western Han Dynasty, Zou Yang and Mei Cheng sought refuge with King Xiao of Liang, Liu Wu, after King Liu Bi of Wu ignored their advice.
Gongsun Gui, a minister of Liu Wu, out of jealousy for their talents, slandered Zou Yang, leading Liu Wu to imprison him.
While in prison, Zou Yang wrote a letter to Liu Wu, which included the line: 'Moved in heart, united in action, intimate as glue and lacquer.' Liu Wu was deeply touched and released him.
