Story:
King Zhou of Shang indulged in a life of luxury with Daji, living in a 'wine pool and meat forest.' Anyone who dared to oppose him would have their heart gouged out or be subjected to branding by fire. The common people were driven to desperation.
King Wu of Zhou decided to launch a punitive expedition against him. At Mengjin, he assembled various feudal lords and held an oath-taking ceremony.
King Wu declared, 'Soldiers, listen to me! Good people fear only that time is too short for doing good. Wicked people, in their wickedness, also fear time is too short. Now King Zhou of Shang is depraved and tyrannical, treating his ministers as thieves and his friends as enemies. He claims to represent Heaven, committing numerous evil deeds without fear. The common people can only pray to Heaven to be free from him. In the past, King Jie of Xia was powerful, but he acted against the Way, so Heaven sent Tang to banish him. Today, though King Zhou's forces number tens of millions, they are disunited and disloyal. While we number only ten, we are united in heart and mind. Heaven will surely see the wishes of the people and hear their voices. Let us fight on behalf of the common people and carry forward the great work of King Tang!'
King Wu's army advanced with irresistible force, defeating the powerful Shang army at Muye. King Zhou of Shang committed suicide, and the Shang dynasty fell.
