Story:
During the Western Han Dynasty, Yan Yannian, an upright and incorruptible prefect of Zhuo Commandery, took office. He soon learned that the influential Gao family in the region was notorious for their wicked deeds. He dispatched his subordinate, Zhao Xiu, to investigate.
However, Zhao Xiu attempted to secretly shield the Gao family, and for this, Yan Yannian had him executed.
Yan Yannian's methods of administering justice were distinctly different from other officials; he specifically targeted powerful local magnates. Both officials and common folk found it impossible to fathom his true intentions or predict his next move, making his approach truly profound and unfathomable.
