Many guests came to Grand View Garden. Lin Daiyu became very close with Xue Baoqin, the younger sister of the newly arrived Baochai, and they shared a great understanding. Shi Xiangyun and Jia Baoyu often sought them out to play and discuss classical allusions and stories.
At one point, Daiyu suddenly remembered that she had no close relatives, and burst into tears. Baoyu laughed, saying she was just bringing trouble upon herself, and everyone present tried to console her.
