Story:
After becoming empress, Wu Zetian grew very arrogant. One cold winter day, she commanded all flowers in Chang'an to bloom, with the exception of the peony. She then ordered the entire city not to plant peonies and to uproot any that remained.
Lu Dongbin saved the Peony Fairy's life, and in gratitude, she wished to pledge herself to him. The Queen Mother of the West criticized Lu Dongbin for this, but He Xiangu interjected, saying that it was a matter of mutual consent between them.
