During the Ming Dynasty, the upright official Hai Rui was known for his integrity throughout his life, always keeping the common people in his heart.
When he served as the magistrate of Chun'an County, he implemented a system to accurately measure land, which greatly reduced the burden on farmers. This, however, offended Governor Hu Zongxian.
Hai Rui was later imprisoned by Emperor Jiajing and was not reappointed until he was 72 years old. Nevertheless, he consistently took it upon himself to plead for the people.
